Jobs

Engineer

Most of this is not greenfield. It is the spreadsheet four people fight over, the automation that died in March, and the data everyone has given up on.

Watch this first

Before the email, watch the pitch for this role. It is the same thing we would say on the call: what the work is, who it suits, and what happens after you apply.

Role video

What the Engineer job actually looks like.

What a normal week holds, who the role suits, what it does not suit, and what the test actually measures.

Video coming shortly. The pitch for this role goes here: what the work looks like, who it suits, and how the test works.

02

What you'll actually be doing

You work on the joins. A business has a website, a CRM, an accounting tool, a booking system and four spreadsheets holding it together, and none of them were built to talk to each other. You make them talk, you remove the manual steps between them, and then you build the small internal tool that finishes the job.

  • Connect systems that were never meant to talk: forms, CRM, payments, calendars, spreadsheets and email.
  • Replace the spreadsheet four people fight over every Friday with something that updates itself.
  • Build the internal tool or dashboard a business actually needs — the five numbers the owner looks at, refreshed daily.
  • Rescue automations that quietly stopped working, and add the check that tells you before the client notices.
  • Clean up the data everyone has given up on: duplicates, dead fields, five spellings of the same customer.
  • Write it down for whoever maintains it after you, including what to do when it breaks.

Who this is for

Someone genuinely irritated by a manual process, and willing to spend three hours removing it rather than repeating it next week. You are comfortable reading someone else's code, someone else's spreadsheet, and asking the awkward question about why the process exists at all.

Who this is not for

Someone who only wants greenfield work. There is a lot of fixing, joining and cleaning up here, and the interesting problem is usually inside something that already exists.

Four clients, max
Every specialist holds at most four businesses at once. The cap is the job, not a perk: it is why the work is good.
From $997 a month
Base pay starts at $997 a month and rises with the work you hold and the clients you keep.
A senior above you
You report to someone who has done this role at this company, with the whole specialist team and the software behind you.

Your questions, answered

Is this full time?

Yes. Full time, fully remote, US EST hours.

Can I work from another country?

Yes. Work from anywhere. You just need to overlap with US EST.

What does it pay?

The top 10% of the market for the role. The exact number depends on your country and your experience, and there are monthly bonuses on top.

What are the hours?

US EST. The overlap is mandatory because it's how you work with clients and the team.

Do I need my own tools or subscriptions?

No. Everything runs on SuperCool, our own platform, and we provide it.

Will I be talking to clients?

Yes, directly, from day one.

How to apply

One email, one role, and something you have actually made or done. That is the whole application. Nobody is reading for keywords.

What to send

  • A system you joined together, what it replaced, and how much time it saved.
  • Something you fixed that somebody else built, and what you had to learn to do it.
  • A link to code, a repository, a script, or a tool — anything you actually shipped.
  • One link to something you have actually made or done in this kind of work.
  • Your name and where you are based, so we know which hours you keep.

What not to send

  • No generic cover letter. If you want to write something, write it about this role.
  • No CV longer than one page. One page, or a link.
  • No list of tools you have used without saying what you built with them.
  • No second application. Applying to more than one role reads as applying to none.
  1. You email us. One email to jobs@doubleup.ai with the role name in the subject line. Applications open by email for now, and that address is the whole entry point.
  2. You get the test. Within two working days we send the practical test for the role you picked, with the brief and the tools you will need.
  3. You do the test. You take the time it asks for and send it back. The test is the whole interview: there is no panel and no second stage after it.
  4. You hear back. Roughly a week from the day you send the test in. Everyone who does the test hears back either way, yes or no.
Apply for this role by email

Applications open by email for now. The button opens a message to jobs@doubleup.ai with Engineer already in the subject line — send it as it is, or write over the top of it.

06

The application test

The test is the whole interview: there is no second stage and no panel. You get a broken integration and you work in the same tools you would use here.

What you are given

A broken join

Two systems that should be talking and are not, plus the spreadsheet currently holding them together by hand.

How long it takes

About two hours

Make the data move, and send the note you would send to a client who does not read code.

What is measured

How you work

Whether you read before you rewrite, and whether your fix would still be standing in a month.

Test content — coming shortly

The Engineer test goes here.

The two systems, the sample data, and the note we would want sent to the client afterwards. The test content is being written and will be published on this page.
